In Q1 2022, the top social networking apps on iOS in Europe demonstrated varied performance in terms of downloads, active users, and revenue. Below, we delve into the specifics for each of the top five apps.

WhatsApp Messenger saw its weekly downloads fluctuate, starting at around 1.4M in early January and dipping to approximately 964K by the first week of March. The active user base was consistently high, maintaining around 130M throughout the quarter, with a slight increase towards the end of March reaching about 131M. Weekly revenue remained stable, averaging around $310.

Telegram Messenger experienced a steady increase in weekly downloads, starting at approximately 530K and peaking at around 786K in late February. Active users also grew from about 41M to nearly 47M by the end of March. Notably, Telegram Messenger did not generate any revenue during this period.

Facebook maintained a consistent download rate, hovering around 450K weekly downloads. However, active users showed a declining trend, starting at around 108M and dropping to approximately 103M by the end of March. Revenue peaked at about $161K in late January but saw a significant drop to around $97K by mid-March, with a slight recovery towards the end of the quarter.

Messenger exhibited a similar pattern to Facebook, with weekly downloads consistently around 370K to 400K. Active users ranged from about 54M to 56M, with minor fluctuations throughout the quarter. Like Telegram, Messenger did not generate any revenue during this period.

Locket Widget, a relatively new entrant, saw a sharp rise in weekly downloads, peaking at around 1M in early January before stabilizing around 150K by the end of March. Active users followed a similar trend, starting at around 192K in early January and reaching about 1.5M by the end of the quarter. Locket Widget did not generate any revenue during this period.
